Need to take the cat to the vets - no money?

I am a little worried about my cats eye and want to get him checked over at the vets but the consultation alone costs �30.00. I have absolutely no money (2 weeks from giving birth, partners not been paid yet & council are late paying our benefits). Do you know if there is anywhere out there (UK) that you can get advice from without patying a hefty consultation fee? I have got him insured but the excess is �50.00
