Dying my hair question?

Right now I have lightish brown hair and its kind of wavy and a little frizzy. I'm trying to convince my mom to let me dye it a dark burgundy color. I've never dyed my hair before. So how will this effect my hair? Will it make it more frizzy? Or will it calm it down? If I dye it once a month will it damage my hair?? thanks for answering my many questions
