Laser eye surgery question?

Im going for a consultation in this week and they have asked that i not wear contacts for a week prior to that, i actually dont have my gles anymore coz i smashed them ages ago and just havnt gotten around to going to the optometrist. Does anyone know why they dont want me to wear contacts for a week?
